Dogs are pack animals and one of the most important issues to a dog is where it stands in the pack. The key in getting a dog to obey its' owner and trainer is for it to find value (reward) in obeying the owner and for it to respect the hierarchy between the dog and owner. Most dog owners don’t understand the importance or how to demonstrate their leadership to their dog. You can go through all the motions of training but if the dog doesn’t recognize you as the leader he won’t strive to please you.
